Introspection is a series showcasing the exploration of a better mental state. In different landscapes, a mirror serves as a "window" or "portal" to a better environment, both physically and mentally, and allows the viewer to reflect on where they are in their state of mental health. The use of varying distances from the mirror symbolizes the place in one's mental health journey.
I photographed this series with a large-format camera on 4x5 black and white film. Rather than using a digital camera, this process allowed me to immerse myself in the environment. In my work, I convey my own experiences while giving space to let the viewer think of their own. In many ways, it can be hard to understand or manage mental health; through my medium, I hope my work can encourage others to learn more about understanding and taking care of their mental well-being.
