Hikes in the north Georgia mountains inspired my recent landscapes. For me, nature stimulates the senses and evokes memories and emotions. In adolescence, the woods were a place for playful adventure and exploration. Now, as an adult, quiet walks represent solitude and time for observation and personal reflection. I paint directly on canvas in my studio referencing images captured during these hikes. Using nature as subject matter provides an opportunity to explore color and mark making. It is also an opportunity to recall the memories of the long walks—the season, the sounds, and the impression of that day.
