I enjoy making through a process that shows the artist’s hand. The repetition that can be achieved with printmaking lends a way to approach visually the phenomenon of how memory isn’t always linear or the same. It’s easily altered and changed with each new interaction or retelling of the past moment. To experience a memory, you must recall the past. Currently, my work reflects on the tensions between adolescence and the transition to the next phase of life. What’s after the party? There is a sense of longing for a yesterday or better day. The stories of nights talked about over and over become more myth than reality. Time, it passes. It goes right along.

Katharine is a printmaker studying at the University of Alabama pursuing her MFA. She graduated with her BS degree in art from the University of Montevallo. Originally from Eufaula, AL she now calls Birmingham, AL her home. Katharine's studio practice is experimental and is often changing as she navigates putting to paper the concept of memory.
