The New Narrative:
“The New Narrative" paintings utilizing a time line for compositional arrangement. The information or data which is represented is organized top to bottom and back to front to signify subject matter’s relationship to each other’s location on the historical timeline. The tradition within painting’s golden age hold the forms of portrait, landscape and still life and are intentionally referenced through similar types of subject matter and made from similar materials but updated with contemporary color and light. The shift or oscillation from the previous abstract work, which included the same sorts of data like history, myth, mass culture and science, to works containing more realism nourishes my curiosity about the direction of my painting practice and offers new audiences, uninitiated to my abstraction, an opportunity to join the discourse.

Ron Laboray is an artist living in Asheville North Carolina. A conceptual artist known for his painting and sculpture. The work is scientific and digitally influenced and using both abstraction and realism, discusses topics like data, Globalization and time. Laboray has shown in major exhibition spaces for over 20 years including the Vincent Price Art Museum, Pacific Design Center and Raid Projects in Los Angeles, in Chicago at the Navy Pier Exposition and the Suburban, Miami Pulse, The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art. Internationally, he has lectured about his work and exhibited in the Netherlands, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, and the Hungarian National Academy of Science in Budapest and a permanent mural installation at Rennes 2 University in Rennes France. Currently, Ron holds the position of Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at Western Carolina University.
